I’m not usually a fan of citrusy things, but while we were in Mexico I decided on a whim to have a Fresca with my ceviche. I was surprised by how much I liked it. When we got home we bought a 2-liter bottle of Fresca and have had it sitting in the cabinet ever since. I decided that it was time to use it, so tonight we decided to do a bit of an experiment with Fresca, pineapple juice and booze.

I looked up some recipes, but most called for orange juice, and I don’t care for orange juice. We had pineapple juice on hand so I decided to just use that. We made 3 drinks, each with 2 parts Fresca, 1 part pineapple juice and 1 part either rum, tequila, or vodka. Because those were the main ingredients I found recommended.

All of them were very good. Les’s favorite was the tequila, it tasted kind of like a grapefruit margarita. My favorite was the rum, but I’ve always been a rum girl, I thought it let the flavors of the soda and the juice through more than the flavor of the alcohol. The vodka one was good, but I think it would be better with a citrus flavored vodka because it was a bit strong even though we used the same amount in all of them.
I think we will continue to experiment, and also that we will start having Fresca on hand from now on. What better way could there be to spend a Sunday night?
